#DealAlert Get A Bang For Your Buck At Biggies!

If you are in the mood for a great meal that is HUGE, filling, and flavorful then Biggie’s is the place for you. I’ve been to two of their three locations in Jersey since they have two in Hoboken and one in Carlstadt. My favorite location is Carldstadt because it’s about 20 minutes away from me and conveniently close to MetLife Stadium.

Anytime I’ve gone to Biggie’s, I’ve got a bang for my buck. There appetizers are big enough to share and made just right (pictured below). I highly recommend the Thai Chili Calamari which will give your taste buds a treat. If you love the wings and thin crust pizza get them while you are there, they are also must-haves. It’s an ideal location for night out with friends, family or even a date. I have yet to have an entree or sandwich there but I’ve heard they are just as big and delicious and plan on trying one of their signature sandwiches during my next visit. Check out their full menu at the Carlstadt location, here.

If all that good food doesn’t have you in the mood for Biggie’s now, then maybe this will. They have $5 martini’s all day everyday, and they aren’t boring flavors either they range from Lychee, Peach, Bellini, and more! I love the martini glasses that they are served in because they add a little flair. The drink menu has a good variety and is affordable in general which is always a plus.

Next time you are headed to North Jersey make sure you make Biggie’s one of your dining destinations. Biggie’s has delicious food & cocktails, football, a family friendly atmosphere, and a great staff. Just talking about it makes me want a Lychee Martini & their calamari.

Biggie’s is #SCBDApproved!

Cheers!

Join Sailor Jerry Rum and Celebrate Bartenders Appreciation Day

Sailor Jerry Rum is hosting their second annual Bartender Appreciation Day on December 8th in support of all those slinging drinks our way. I got to chat with Brand Ambassador Paul Monahan on this new holiday and its importance in our society.

Why did Sailor Jerry introduce Bartender Appreciation Day?

We think bartenders are under appreciated. Think about it. They’re such an important part of a good night out. They have to be part crafts-person,  part showman, part diplomat. And they have to work some pretty rough hours – while we’re drinking and having a good time, they’re working. So at Sailor Jerry, we wanted to step up and start getting bartenders the recognition they deserve.

Why do you think it is important to have this day?

We believe it’s important to give people who work hard a pat on the back. Our namesake, Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins worked tirelessly perfecting his craft earning him the title ‘the father of the old school tattoo’. This work ethic and dedication to one’s craft is something we strive to support and reward in all walks of life. As a rum, we spend a lot of time in bars — so we’re extremely aware of the innate awesomeness of the craft of bartending and want to celebrate it.

What are some of your hopes for expanding this holiday in the future?

We’re in it to win it. We want to see this become a proper, widely celebrated holiday observed wherever there are bars – in other words, EVERYWHERE!

What are some fun ways our readers can celebrate?

They can go to the Sailor Jerry website and download petition posters, post cards and other stuff to help spread the word. They can check out our Facebook page to see what official events are going on near them. And most importantly, they can get themselves to a bar on December 8th, have a couple of Sailor Jerry’s – and give an extra big tip!

Tonic takes Times Square ‘tourist’ cuisine to new heights…

These past two weeks I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying a meal or two & some delicious cocktails at Tonic Times Square. I’m not one for going to “tourist” places in Times Square, but I’m pretty happy a friend lead me that way. I was really impressed by the food & cocktails. I was fortunate enough to get in touch with a mixologist there who took care of me. Lets just say, I have some surprises coming up for you readers and you won’t be disappointed. In the meantime, let me tell you about my experience at Tonic Times Square…

Tonic Times Square (727 Seventh Avenue, NY, NY)

Customer Service: 5- I arrived around 7 pm which gave me a good hour before happy hour ended. Everyone was friendly and helped me as needed.

Atmosphere: 5- It has a very typical Times Square to it. It’s in the middle of Times Square on 7th between 49th & 50th. It’s a huge restaurant and perfect, fun place to check out a game or enjoy a date.

Food/Cocktail Quality: 5- When I came in they still had Voli happy hour specials. I got the “Big Sexy” and loved it, even ended up having not one but two. The first time I came in I ordered their signature tonic wings. For $10 you get 10 nice sized wings. I loved the tonic sauce and was pretty impressed. They actually really work hard on how the food tastes and looks. I wouldn’t call Tonic’s food a tourist trap at all. The next time I came I decided to try the Grilled Steak Skewers since I love steak. They were $12, the Chimichurri sauce is delicious and has a little kick to it. Both the wings & skewers were appetizers but suitable for a meal. The skewers could’ve used a side but regardless I was not disappointed. All I need is a good dish & cocktail & I’m set and I got that at Tonic.

Price: $-$$: Depending on what you get and when you go it can get pricey but for New York the appetizers, salads, and sandwiches are decent priced. During happy hour drinks range from $3-7 which is a huge deal and they aren’t ‘well drinks’. The happy hour on Monday’s includes brands such as Voli and more.

Final Score: 15/15- I was pretty impressed with Tonic’s menu and selection. The food is delicious and is presented just a great. If your ever in Times Square I highly recommend it!

In the meantime, happy eating & drinking!

Bar Anticipation is everything you’ve anticipated!

The second trip I made last Friday night was with my former roomie Ashley from college who has seen Small Chick grow from its beginnings, so she knows how I roll. Since she’s more from the Northern Central Jersey area and the weather was nice we decided to have a girls night out by the beach, after shopping at the Jersey Shore Outlets of course. It was her first time at the bars in the Belmar area so we knew we were going to have to go to my favorite bar at home, down the shore…

Bar Anticipation aka “Bar A”  (703 16th Avenue, Belmar, NJ)

Customer Service: 5- It was a Friday night at a bar at the Jersey Shore. Luckily, we had the best waiter anyone could’ve asked for. He was attentive answered all our questions and made it a carefree girls night for us.

Atmosphere: 5- Bar A has an awesome atmosphere and their own beach, better known as the Grotto. It’s a huge bar and restaurant and I prefer sitting outside anytime I’m there. You literally feel like you’re on a beach, and you’re only a block from the shore.

Food/Drink Quality: 5- When I first decided to to have a quick bite at Bar A I wasn’t expecting anythings special and I definitely  wouldn’t have expected a bar like Bar A to make their Buffalo Wing sauce on site. But they do and it’s awesome and they range from traditional wing sauce to Mango BBQ. I went with my man a week or two before I went with my roomie and he loved the Mango BBQ. When I went with my roomie Ashley, she loved the traditional we got. I’m addicted to them now! But it doesn’t stop there. We also ordered sandwiches since it was dinner time and we were hungry so we picked a staple– Grilled Cheese with tomato & bacon, they didn’t disappoint and were huge and only $6. Let’s just say I’m pretty impressed with their menu.

The drinks at Bar A are great too. We came in on a Friday which is the day they have a happy hour that starts at 4pm and goes until 9pm and they also have specials from 9pm til close. The drinks are always made well and they have a great liquor selection to compliment their bar grub. Drinks aren’t horribly expensive after happy hour ends but it’s so worth it. They always make my 007, Malibu Bay Breeze, and Jolly Rancher to a tee! I’ve also been to Bar A for their famous Beat The Clock Tuesday’s— draft beers start 50 cents starting at 8pm & go up 25 cents every hour. Let’s just say Tuesday’s are like high school reunions for locals. You can find more info on their daily deals here!

Price: $- Bar A always has deals so it’s possible not to break your budget for a great night out at the Jersey Shore. I am constantly checking the event calendar and follow them on Twitter & Facebook! The best deal they have is beat the clock– beer and wings, sounds amazing right? You can definitely have a date or enjoy a girls night for $30 & under. I can’t emphasize the beer & wings enough!

Final Score: 15/15– When I first started going to Bar A, I wasn’t sure if I was going to impressed or turned off and i was impressed. It’s the bar I prefer to go to anytime I’m home. The daily specials are great, food is up to par for a bar and it’s a great variety, the staff communicates well and it’s always a good time. Just be prepared, beat the clock over the summer tends to grab a huge crowd, but as I mentioned you’re pretty safe any day you go with all the deals they have. They also serve brunch which I have yet to go to but plan on it. I love it and highly recommend it!

And then there was one…we were the ‘skinniest fat girls’ that night!

The delicious grilled cheese with french fries & a pickle, for $6!

Taking a trip to the Jersey Shore soon, let me know if you agree and what your verdict is about Bar A!

Until next time…

 Happy Eating & Drinking! 🙂
